FAQ

Getting Started and Who We Serve

No, and this is important to us. You do not need a formal diagnosis to access any of our services, including coaching, therapy, nutrition support, or behavior services.

If you are struggling with focus, relationships, school, work, sensory overwhelm, or just feel like your brain works differently than everyone else’s, that is enough. You belong here. If you do want a formal diagnosis, we offer comprehensive neurodivergent assessments that take you from intake through evaluation to a written report and personalized care pathway. But a diagnosis is never a requirement to get started.

Absolutely, and this is one of our specialties. Getting an ADHD or Autism diagnosis as an adult can feel like your whole life suddenly makes sense and falls apart at the same time. There is relief, grief, anger, clarity, and a lot of questions about what comes next.

Our team includes providers who specialize specifically in late diagnosis, the unmasking process, understanding how your neurodivergence has shaped your relationships and career, navigating workplace accommodations, and building a life that finally works for the way your brain actually works.

You are not starting over. You are starting with better information.

This is one of the most common questions we get, and the honest answer is that many people benefit from more than one. Here is a rough guide:

An assessment might be right if: you have always wondered whether you have ADHD or Autism, recently discovered neurodivergence in your family, need a formal diagnosis for school or workplace accommodations, or just want a clear clinical picture of how your brain works.

Therapy might be right if: you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, or deeper mental health challenges alongside your neurodivergence. Therapy is the right fit when the work is clinical and emotional.

Coaching might be right if: you are looking for practical strategies, skill-building, and support navigating real life, school, work, relationships, transitions, daily routines. Coaching is forward-focused and skills-based.

Therapy VS. Coaching

Therapy is a licensed clinical service provided by credentialed mental health professionals, LMHCs and equivalent, trained to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions. Therapy addresses deeper clinical and emotional work: trauma, anxiety, depression, identity, and how your neurodivergence intersects with your mental health. Because therapists are licensed, they can only practice in states where they hold an active license.

Coaching is a skills-based, goal-oriented partnership focused on helping you build strategies, navigate systems, and make life work better for your brain. Coaches work on executive function, time management, school and workplace supports, relationships, transitions, and day-to-day life skills. Coaching is not bound by state licensure and is available to clients across all 50 states.
Not sure which is right for you? That is exactly what our free consultation is for.

Our licensed therapists can only provide therapy services in states where they hold an active license. We are actively growing our licensed therapist team across the country, so availability is expanding.

Coaching, nutrition support, occupational therapy, and behavior services are available nationwide regardless of state.

Assessments

Our comprehensive neurodivergent assessment covers the full journey from initial intake to your final written report. Here is what to expect:

  • A detailed intake where we gather your history, concerns, and goals
  • A thorough clinical evaluation using validated assessment tools for ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, and related profiles
  • A written report that includes your results, a formal diagnosis where applicable, and a personalized care pathway outlining your recommended next steps

Our turnaround is six weeks from intake to final report, compared to the three to six month wait times common at most practices. The full assessment for ADHD and Autism is a flat fee of $800.

Payment and Insurance

We are a cash-pay practice, which means we do not bill insurance directly. Clients pay at the time of service.

We know this is a significant consideration, which is why we offer multiple ways to make care accessible:

  • Sliding scale pricing based on financial need
  • CareCredit healthcare financing
  • HSA and FSA card payments
  • 90-day and 120-day interest-free payment plans

Being cash-pay also means your care stays between you and your provider, not your insurance company. No pre-authorizations, no claim denials, no limits on how many sessions you can have.

A superbill is an itemized receipt that includes everything your insurance company needs to process a reimbursement claim, your provider’s NPI number, CPT billing codes, ICD-10 diagnosis codes, session dates, and fees paid. You submit it directly to your insurer and they determine what, if anything, they will reimburse based on your out-of-network benefits.

To request a superbill, just contact our Practice Director after your session. We generate them upon request at no additional charge.

Keep in mind that coaching services are generally not reimbursable by insurance. Reimbursement for therapy, OT, and nutrition services depends on your individual plan. We do not guarantee reimbursement, but we will give you everything you need to try.

Your Experience At Divergent Therapy and Coaching

It happens, and it is completely okay. The therapeutic and coaching relationship only works when there is genuine connection and trust, and finding the right fit sometimes takes more than one try.
If at any point you feel that your provider is not the right match for you, just reach out to our Practice Director. We will listen, ask a few questions, and do our best to connect you with someone on our team who is a better fit.

No judgment, no awkwardness. Getting you the right support is the only thing that matters. Our coaches and our director all believe this!

We understand that life, especially neurodivergent life, does not always go according to plan. We will always try to work with you. That said, our providers hold time specifically for you, and last-minute cancellations make it impossible to offer that spot to another client who needs it.

No-show: Missing your appointment without any notice. A $100 fee applies.

To cancel or reschedule without a fee, please use your PracticeQ client portal at least 24 hours in advance. Within 24 hours, please call our office directly.
True emergencies happen. If something comes up, reach out as soon as you can, fees may be waived at the discretion of our Practice Director on a case-by-case basis. We are human, and we will treat you that way.
